Jaipur: In one of the most significant governance reforms announced this year, the Rajasthan Cabinet on Friday approved the implementation of the "One State, One Election" model for Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies. The decision aims to conduct rural and municipal elections simultaneously, reducing administrative disruptions, lowering election-related expenditure, and ensuring uninterrupted development works across the state.
The Cabinet also approved a major welfare initiative under which state government employees will receive insurance coverage until their retirement, strengthening financial security for lakhs of public servants. Officials described the move as an important step toward expanding employee welfare and social protection.
The government accepted the recommendations of the Rajasthan State OBC Political Representation Commission, clearing the way for updated reservation provisions in Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections. The approval enables the process of seat reservation and election preparations to move forward.
According to the state government, synchronizing elections is expected to save public resources, reduce repeated enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, and allow government departments to focus more consistently on infrastructure, welfare schemes, and rural development.
The Cabinet meeting also approved policy measures covering agriculture, food processing, environmental conservation, renewable energy, and rural economic development, reflecting a broader strategy to boost investment, employment, and sustainable growth across Rajasthan.
