The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Parakram Singh Rathore, son of senior party leader and former Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathore, from Churu Zila Parishad Ward 39. His wife, Kanika Singh, is contesting from Ward 23.
Parakram had faced uncertainty after the party initially put his candidature on hold. Following a period of political suspense, the BJP ultimately allotted him its official party symbol, clearing the way for both husband and wife to contest under the party banner. Both candidates have filed their nominations.
The contest is also likely to renew debate over political dynasties and the selection of relatives of established leaders. For the BJP and Congress, the elections represent an opportunity to test their organisational strength beyond the state and national levels.
Rural development to remain a key issue
While prominent political surnames may attract public attention, local issues are expected to remain central to the campaign. Voters will assess candidates on accessibility, development commitments and their ability to raise village-level concerns.
As the election process advances, the performance of candidates backed by influential political families will be closely watched by both parties.
