Ranchi : A major student protest over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations turned tense in Ranchi on Monday as thousands of aspirants marching towards the Jharkhand Assembly clashed with security forces. Police used lathi-charge and water cannons after demonstrators breached multiple layers of barricading near the Assembly premises.

The protesters, demanding accountability and corrective action in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment process, attempted to cross barricades fitted with concertina wire. Visual reports from the protest site showed demonstrators throwing slippers and bottles while some climbed over the barricades as security personnel tried to stop the march.
PROTESTERS DEMAND ACTION OVER RECRUITMENT EXAMS
The agitation has centred on allegations of irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and related recruitment bodies. Students have demanded a transparent recruitment process, accountability for alleged misconduct and action against those found responsible.
The protest had continued for more than two weeks before Monday's Assembly march, with students mobilising in large numbers from different parts of the state. Authorities had tightened security around the Assembly ahead of the planned demonstration and imposed restrictions in the surrounding area.
FORMER JPSC CHAIRMAN ARRESTED
In a significant development coinciding with the student agitation, Jharkhand CID arrested former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte in connection with the investigation into alleged examination irregularities. Reports said the former chairman had previously been questioned by the CID several times as part of the probe.
The arrest has added another major dimension to an already intense controversy surrounding the state's recruitment examination system. According to reports, the investigation has already resulted in multiple arrests, while students continue to press for a wider and transparent inquiry.
POLICE ACTION TRIGGERS POLITICAL REACTION
The use of force against the protesters is expected to intensify the political debate over the handling of the student movement. Opposition leaders have criticised the police action, while authorities have maintained that security measures were necessary after protesters crossed barricades established to protect the Assembly area.
The immediate priority for the administration remains restoring order while preventing further escalation. The confrontation has nevertheless placed the recruitment controversy firmly at the centre of Jharkhand's political discourse.
DNN ANALYSIS
The Ranchi confrontation highlights the growing frustration among job aspirants over recruitment examinations and alleged irregularities. For thousands of young people preparing for government jobs, examination transparency is directly linked to years of preparation and career prospects.
The government's response to the agitation, along with the ongoing CID investigation, will therefore be closely watched. A credible investigation, transparent examination procedures and timely communication with students could be critical to bringing the confrontation back from the streets to institutional channels.
