Jaipur: Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar on Wednesday inspected two major government women's hospitals to review maternity healthcare services, emergency response mechanisms, labour rooms, operation theatres, neonatal care units, and patient facilities.
The inspection comes as the state government intensifies efforts to restore public confidence in maternal healthcare after a series of maternal deaths reported in government hospitals over recent months. During interactions with doctors, nurses, administrators, and patients, the minister reviewed infection-control measures, availability of medicines, blood supply, medical equipment, and staffing levels.
Khimsar stated that despite recent incidents under investigation, Rajasthan continues to perform better than the national average in maternal mortality indicators. He said the government's objective is to reduce preventable maternal deaths further through stricter adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), early identification of high-risk pregnancies, and improved monitoring of mothers before and after childbirth.
The minister directed hospital authorities to ensure continuous surveillance of high-risk pregnancies, timely referrals, proper sterilization of operation theatres, uninterrupted medicine availability, and round-the-clock specialist care.
The state government has also mobilised thousands of ASHA workers, ANMs, and medical personnel to strengthen maternal health surveillance across Rajasthan. Special audits, expert committees, and AIIMS-supported reviews are underway to identify causes behind recent maternal complications and recommend corrective measures.
Health officials said the inspections are part of a statewide initiative to improve institutional deliveries, strengthen emergency obstetric care, and enhance patient safety standards in government hospitals.
