Collectors, SDMs to Conduct Lottery for Rajasthan Panchayat Poll Reservations

The Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Department has issued a notification initiating the reservation process for the upcoming Panchayat elections. Under the new schedule, District Collectors and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) will conduct lottery draws to determine the reservation of posts for Zila Pramukh, Pradhan, Sarpanch, Panchayat Samiti members, Zila Parishad wards, and Gram Panchayat wards. The lottery process is expected to be completed next month, paving the way for the State Election Commission to announce the election schedule.

The notification outlines the administrative framework for reserving seats for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and women, in accordance with constitutional and state Panchayati Raj provisions. District administrations have been instructed to carry out the lottery process transparently under official supervision before final reservation lists are published.

The reservation exercise is a crucial milestone before the formal election notification is issued. Once the reserved constituencies are finalized, political parties and independent aspirants will begin preparations for campaigning across Rajasthan's rural local bodies. Officials say the process aims to ensure fair representation and compliance with legal requirements governing local self-government institutions.

The Panchayat elections are expected to witness intense political competition as rural governance, development projects, water supply, roads, education, and welfare schemes remain key campaign issues across the state.
