In a high-profile visit to one of India's most iconic landmarks, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his wife Janet Rubio toured the Taj Mahal on Monday morning as part of their official visit to India.
The couple arrived in Agra accompanied by a delegation of officials and security personnel. Despite temperatures reaching nearly 41°C, they spent approximately 45 minutes exploring the monument and its surrounding gardens.
During the visit, the Rubios paused at the famous Diana Bench, where they posed for photographs with the majestic white-marble mausoleum in the background. Officials said the couple showed keen interest in the monument's history, craftsmanship and intricate marble inlay work.
According to local sources, guide Nitin Singh briefed the visitors on the architectural significance of the Taj Mahal, explaining details of its construction, carvings and Mughal-era design. Janet Rubio reportedly praised the monument's beauty, calling it a remarkable example of world heritage.
Security arrangements around the monument were significantly enhanced during the visit. Tourist movement in certain sections of the complex was temporarily regulated to facilitate the official tour.
Following their visit, the U.S. delegation proceeded to a local hospitality venue before departing from Agra's Kheria Airport for Jaipur, where additional diplomatic engagements were scheduled.
The visit highlights the continuing cultural dimension of India–United States relations, with the Taj Mahal remaining a key destination for visiting world leaders and dignitaries.
