Jodhpur: In a major administrative reshuffle aimed at reinforcing policing and internal security, the Rajasthan government has appointed senior IPS officer Anshuman Bhomia as the new Police Commissioner of Jodhpur. The move is part of a broader transfer exercise involving senior Indian Police Service officers across the state to strengthen governance and law enforcement.

Bhomia, a 2006-batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, replaces Sharat Kaviraj, who has been transferred to the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Jaipur, as Inspector General (Crime Branch). Simultaneously, Pankaj Yadav has been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP), Jodhpur Rural, replacing P.D. Nitya, who has been posted as SP, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jodhpur.

The reshuffle has attracted attention because both the Jodhpur Police Commissioner and Jodhpur Rural SP have been replaced after serving for only about four and a half months, reflecting the government's renewed focus on policing priorities.

Intelligence specialist takes charge

Anshuman Bhomia brings nearly two decades of policing experience with an extensive background in intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism operations, and strategic security planning. Before his latest appointment, he served as Inspector General of Police (IGP), SSB, Jaipur.

Academically, Bhomia holds LLB and LLM degrees, providing him with a strong legal foundation that complements his policing experience. Throughout his career, he has served in several high-profile assignments within Rajasthan Police, including the Intelligence Wing, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), and Police Headquarters.

His professional record includes leadership roles in intelligence operations, anti-terror investigations, and statewide security coordination, earning him a reputation as an officer with strong analytical and operational capabilities.

Focus on crime control

As Police Commissioner of Jodhpur, Bhomia is expected to prioritize action against organized crime, narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, and public safety challenges across the commissionerate. Officials believe his intelligence background could enhance information-based policing and improve coordination among law enforcement agencies.

The appointment comes as Rajasthan continues efforts to modernize policing, improve crime detection, and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Jodhpur Rural SP Pankaj Yadav is expected to focus on expanding police outreach, improving rural policing, and ensuring faster grievance redressal in remote areas.

With western Rajasthan witnessing growing concerns over cyber fraud, organized criminal networks, and cross-district policing challenges, the new leadership is expected to play a key role in shaping the region's law enforcement strategy in the coming months.
