Jaipur: In a major administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening law enforcement across Rajasthan, the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led government has appointed IPS Dr. Priti Chandra, a 2008-batch Rajasthan cadre officer, as the new Inspector General (IG) of Bharatpur Range. The appointment marks her first field posting after being promoted to the rank of IG, placing her in charge of the sensitive districts of Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, and Karauli.

Widely recognized within the Rajasthan Police for her tough policing style and field leadership, Dr. Chandra has earned the popular nickname "Lady Singham." Her new assignment comes at a time when the Bharatpur region continues to face challenges related to cyber fraud, illegal arms trafficking, organized crime, and cross-border criminal activities due to its proximity to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

A Career Built on High-Profile Operations

Throughout her career, Dr. Chandra has handled several critical assignments that have brought her statewide recognition.

As Superintendent of Police in Karauli, she personally led operations in the Chambal ravines, contributing to the surrender and crackdown of notorious dacoits. During her tenure in Bundi, she spearheaded operations against human trafficking and prostitution networks, rescuing several minor girls and strengthening victim rehabilitation efforts.

She also became Bikaner's first woman Superintendent of Police, where officials credited her with improving grassroots policing and reducing crime. While serving with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Kota, she supervised several successful trap operations targeting public officials accused of accepting bribes.

New Challenges in Bharatpur Range

The Bharatpur Range remains one of Rajasthan's most strategically important policing zones. Authorities are increasingly focusing on cybercrime syndicates, digital arrest scams, organized gangs, and illegal firearms smuggling operating across interstate borders.

Security experts believe Dr. Chandra's experience in both field policing and police headquarters administration could help strengthen intelligence-based policing, inter-state coordination, and law enforcement operations across the region.

From Rural Rajasthan to IPS Leadership

Born in Kundan village of Sikar district, Dr. Priti Chandra completed her education in Rajasthan before clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in her very first attempt through self-study, securing All India Rank 255.

Before joining the Indian Police Service, she worked briefly as a school teacher and later as a local television journalist, experiences that colleagues say helped shape her communication skills and understanding of grassroots issues.

She has also served in several senior assignments, including:

Additional SP, Alwar

SP, Bundi

SP, Karauli

SP, Bikaner

SP, Anti-Corruption Bureau (Kota)

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jaipur Metro

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic & Administration), Jaipur

DIG, Armed Battalion-I

IG (Law & Order & Administration), Police Headquarters, Jaipur

Dr. Chandra has previously been honored with the Chief Minister's Police Medal for her distinguished service.

Looking Ahead

With her appointment, expectations are high that Bharatpur Range will witness stronger action against organized crime and cyber fraud while improving public safety in one of Rajasthan's most sensitive policing jurisdictions. The transfer is part of a wider reshuffle involving 18 senior IPS officers, reflecting the state government's effort to reinforce policing and administrative efficiency.
