Jaipur: In a significant administrative development, the Rajasthan Government has placed a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer under Awaiting Posting Orders (APO) following allegations that the officer travelled overseas without obtaining the required government permission.
According to reports, the officer had already been under public scrutiny after issuing directions during an official government workshop that allegedly encouraged participation or association with a religious foundation. The directive drew criticism from sections of civil society and administrative observers, who questioned whether such instructions were consistent with the constitutional principle of a politically and religiously neutral civil service.
The latest action comes amid the state's efforts to reinforce discipline and accountability within the bureaucracy. While the government has not publicly detailed the findings of its preliminary inquiry, officials indicated that compliance with service rules governing foreign travel by civil servants is being examined.
Government service regulations require public servants to follow prescribed procedures before undertaking foreign travel. Depending on the officer's assignment and service conditions, prior approval or leave sanction may be necessary, particularly for officers holding sensitive administrative responsibilities. Rajasthan has revised certain foreign travel procedures in recent years while retaining stricter requirements for key positions.
The APO order does not, by itself, constitute a finding of guilt. It is generally considered an administrative measure pending further examination or posting decisions. Any disciplinary proceedings, if initiated, would follow applicable service rules and provide the officer an opportunity to respond.
