A major healthcare scare has gripped Rajasthan after five postpartum women suffered a sudden deterioration in their health while undergoing treatment in Jodhpur. According to hospital officials, three of the women have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while one remains on ventilator support due to her critical condition.
The incident has sparked renewed scrutiny of maternal healthcare services in the state's largest referral hospitals. Hospital authorities at Ummed Hospital stated that the affected women had been referred from other medical institutions and were not originally admitted there for delivery. Officials have emphasized that investigations are underway to determine the exact medical cause behind the deterioration.

Medical teams at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, where critical patients are receiving advanced treatment, are closely monitoring their condition. Specialists in obstetrics, critical care, and transfusion medicine have reportedly been involved in managing the emergency.
The development follows heightened public concern over patient safety in government hospitals, particularly after reports of an alleged incompatible blood transfusion involving a young woman in Jodhpur triggered an official inquiry. Authorities have not confirmed whether the latest cases are linked to that incident, and investigations remain ongoing.
Health experts note that postpartum complications can arise from multiple factors, including severe infection, hemorrhage, transfusion reactions, or underlying medical conditions. They caution that conclusions should await the findings of the official medical investigation.
The Rajasthan Health Department is expected to review hospital procedures, referral mechanisms, and emergency response protocols as officials work to determine whether any lapse in clinical practice contributed to the incident.
