New Delhi: The Centre has extended the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin by one year, allowing him to continue leading the federal financial-investigation agency until August 13, 2027.
The extension was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), according to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
Navin, a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was appointed Director of Enforcement in August 2024 after serving as the agency's acting chief. His extended tenure will continue beyond his scheduled retirement date of July 31, 2027.
Three Decades of Tax Administration Experience
Rahul Navin has more than three decades of experience in the Income Tax Department, with a particular focus on international taxation, transfer pricing and cross-border financial matters.
He worked in the International Taxation Directorate in Mumbai between 2004 and 2008, where he handled tax-related issues involving offshore transactions and assets located in India.
Between November 2015 and November 2017, Navin served as Commissioner of Transfer Pricing, overseeing matters involving intangible assets, royalty payments, inbound and outbound loans and commodity transactions.
He also held two important assignments with the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). He served in the Tax Policy Division from 2000 to 2004 and later worked as Director in the Foreign Tax and Tax Research Division from 2011 to 2015.
From ED Special Assignment to Director
Navin joined the Enforcement Directorate in November 2019 as an Officer on Special Duty, drawing on his international-tax expertise. One of his key responsibilities was assisting India's participation in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) mutual evaluation process.
He became Special Director (Headquarters) in November 2020, where his responsibilities included coordinating money-laundering investigations across the country, international cooperation, asset recovery under treaties and administrative matters.
On September 15, 2023, Navin took charge as Director of Enforcement (in-charge). He was formally appointed ED Director on August 14, 2024.
The latest extension keeps him at the helm of the agency through August 2027.

Navin is originally from Bihar. He holds BTech and MTech degrees from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
His professional career has largely focused on taxation, international financial transactions and enforcement-related matters—experience that has increasingly intersected with the ED's investigations into complex financial crimes and cross-border transactions.
