Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal has signalled a possible transition towards younger leadership at the diversified conglomerate, with media reports identifying his daughter, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, as a potential successor.
Speaking to journalists in Bhubaneswar, Agarwal said Vedanta was being built with the coming generations in mind and would continue contributing to India’s development for the next 200 years. However, he did not provide details about any specific new position or timeline for Priya Agarwal Hebbar.
Agarwal also focused on Odisha’s mineral resources and the potential for employment and industrial growth in the state. He spoke about the need for necessary approvals for the proposed Niyamgiri bauxite project and highlighted opportunities to develop a wide range of aluminium-based products.
According to Agarwal, Odisha has the potential to support around 150–200 types of aluminium-based products, while industries ranging from investments of ₹5 crore to ₹500 crore could emerge around the sector.
Priya Agarwal Hebbar currently serves as Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc and as a Non-Executive Director of Vedanta Ltd. She joined Vedanta’s board in 2017. She is also associated with animal-welfare initiatives and founded TACO, an organisation focused on animal care and welfare.
Hebbar studied Psychology and Business Management at the University of Warwick. She has increasingly been involved in Vedanta’s corporate and social initiatives.
Following the death of her brother Agnivesh Agarwal in January 2026, Priya remained alongside her father in the group’s public and business activities. Agarwal had previously said that Priya began her involvement in animal welfare at a young age, including starting YODA at 16.
In July 2026, Priya also spoke about using available resources and platforms to contribute to social change, reflecting her growing public profile beyond Vedanta’s corporate activities.
The latest remarks by Anil Agarwal have renewed attention on the group’s next-generation leadership, although the precise structure and responsibilities of any succession plan remain to be formally announced.
