In a sharp observation during the hearing of the NEET-UG paper leak controversy, the Supreme Court criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) and advised it to “learn from UPSC” while conducting large-scale competitive examinations across the country.

The apex court emphasized that both individual accountability and institutional accountability are essential to restore public trust in India’s examination system after repeated allegations of paper leaks and procedural lapses.

The bench cautioned that recurring irregularities in major national examinations could seriously damage the future of lakhs of students and undermine the credibility of public institutions.

According to reports, the court questioned the preparedness and operational efficiency of the NTA, especially in handling highly sensitive examinations like NEET-UG, which determines admissions to medical colleges nationwide.

The judges highlighted the functioning of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as a benchmark for secure and transparent examination practices, suggesting that the NTA adopt stricter protocols and stronger accountability mechanisms.

Officials and education experts believe the remarks from the Supreme Court could push the government toward major reforms in examination security, digital monitoring systems, and administrative oversight.

The NEET-UG controversy has sparked nationwide protests from students and parents demanding fair examinations, transparency, and strict action against those responsible for leaks and malpractice.
