India and New Zealand have announced a major upgrade in their diplomatic relationship, with both governments committing to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership designed to expand cooperation across key sectors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for high-level discussions focused on economic growth, regional stability, and global challenges. The leaders described the partnership as a reflection of the two nations' shared democratic values, strong people-to-people connections, and growing strategic interests.
The talks covered a broad range of issues, including defence collaboration, maritime security, digital innovation, renewable energy, agriculture, education, tourism, and investment. Both sides agreed to encourage greater business engagement while creating new opportunities for academic and cultural exchanges.
Recognizing the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific, the leaders reaffirmed their support for international law, freedom of navigation, peaceful resolution of disputes, and a stable regional order. They emphasized that stronger cooperation between India and New Zealand would contribute to regional peace, security, and sustainable economic development.
The meeting also highlighted the growing importance of partnerships between Indo-Pacific democracies as both countries seek closer collaboration on emerging technologies, supply chain resilience, clean energy initiatives, and disaster management.
Officials from both governments described the upgraded partnership as a long-term framework that will guide future cooperation and strengthen diplomatic engagement in the years ahead.
