Attack Near White House Triggers Security Lockdown
A major security incident unfolded near the White House on Saturday evening when a 21-year-old suspect, identified by investigators as Nasire Best, allegedly opened fire on a Secret Service checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect removed a revolver from a bag and fired multiple rounds toward a security booth staffed by Secret Service officers. Officers immediately returned fire, striking the gunman and stopping the attack before he could advance further.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities also confirmed that a civilian bystander was wounded and remains under medical care.
The White House was briefly placed under lockdown while law enforcement secured the area. The restriction was lifted approximately one hour later after officials determined there was no continuing threat.
Investigators say the suspect had previously encountered Secret Service personnel in 2025 after allegedly attempting to gain unauthorized access to the White House complex. Federal and local agencies, including the FBI, are continuing to examine the motive behind the attack. Deepstate news network wdc.
