Jaipur: A classroom ceiling partially collapsed during a lesson at the Government Senior Secondary School in Heerawala village of Jaipur's Bassi block on Wednesday, injuring two Class 11 students and renewing concerns over the condition of government school infrastructure across Rajasthan.

According to school authorities, a large section of ceiling plaster suddenly fell while students were attending class. Teachers immediately evacuated the classroom and rushed the injured students to the Nayla Community Health Centre, where they received first aid before being discharged.

The injured students were identified as Khushboo Raigar, who sustained injuries to her head and hand, and Dilkush Bairwa, who also suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Parents Accuse School of Ignoring Warning Signs

The injured student's father alleged that the classroom had long been in a deteriorated condition, claiming exposed steel reinforcement bars and visible cracks in the reinforced concrete roof had been apparent for some time.

Parents questioned why classes continued inside a structure they described as unsafe, arguing that timely repairs could have prevented the incident.

Growing Concerns Over School Infrastructure

The accident has once again highlighted concerns regarding aging government school buildings in Rajasthan. Similar structural issues have been reported in recent months at other schools in Jaipur district, raising questions about maintenance standards and inspection mechanisms.

Attempts to obtain an official response from the Block Education Officer and the school's principal were reportedly unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Parents are now demanding:

An immediate structural safety audit of government schools.

Urgent repair of dilapidated classrooms.

Accountability for officials responsible for maintenance.

Regular inspections before students occupy aging buildings.

Why It Matters

Although the injuries were not life-threatening, the incident serves as another reminder of the risks posed by aging educational infrastructure. Safety experts say routine structural inspections and preventive maintenance are essential to prevent potentially more serious accidents in schools.
