JAIPUR, June 22, 2026 — Rajasthan Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully has launched a sharp attack on the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led government over a series of maternal and neonatal deaths reported from different parts of the state. Alleging serious failures in the healthcare system, Jully claimed that Rajasthan's public health infrastructure has reached a critical stage and called for strict action against those responsible.
Speaking to the media in Alwar, Jully referred to recent incidents reported from Kota, Tonk, Bikaner, and Jodhpur, where maternal deaths, neonatal fatalities, and kidney failure cases among women have raised concerns about patient safety and hospital management.
He questioned whether substandard or counterfeit medicines could be contributing to the incidents and demanded a thorough investigation into procurement and quality-control procedures. According to Jully, if negligence or fake medicines are found to have caused deaths, authorities should register criminal cases under serious charges, including culpable homicide or murder where legally applicable.
The opposition leader also called for accountability throughout the healthcare chain, including procurement officials, testing authorities, suppliers, and hospital administrators. He argued that responsibility should not automatically fall only on doctors when broader systemic failures may be involved.
Jully further accused the state government of weakening healthcare initiatives introduced during the previous Congress administration, including Right to Health, Chiranjeevi Health Insurance, and the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS). He also raised concerns about ambulance services, medicine availability, hospital sanitation, infection control, and monitoring mechanisms.
The state government has not yet issued a detailed response to all of Jully's allegations. Meanwhile, investigations into several of the reported medical incidents continue at different hospitals across Rajasthan.
