AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has called on the central government to introduce multiple fuel options at petrol pumps, allowing vehicle owners to select between E20 (20% ethanol blend), E10 (10% ethanol blend), and E0 (pure petrol) according to their vehicle requirements and preferences.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that people’s concerns regarding E20 fuel have not been adequately addressed. He questioned the government’s decision to continue promoting E20 fuel despite opposition from sections of consumers.
Allegations Against Government Policy
Kejriwal alleged that the government is using different methods to convince citizens about the safety of E20 fuel. He questioned who would be responsible if consumers face reduced mileage or vehicle-related issues after using ethanol-blended fuel.
He announced that he would write a letter to Prime Minister regarding the issue and requested the government to make E20, E10, and E0 fuels available with separate pricing options.
Automobile Companies Asked to Address Concerns
Kejriwal claimed that representatives from major automobile companies, including , , , , , and were asked to assure the public about the compatibility of E20 fuel with vehicles.
Government Rejects Concerns Over E20 Fuel
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas has previously dismissed claims that E20 fuel damages engines or creates other problems, calling such concerns misinformation. The government has maintained that ethanol blending is part of India’s energy strategy to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and support renewable fuel initiatives.
