Community Mobilizes for Reservation Demand
Bharatpur is preparing for a significant political and social gathering as the Jat Reservation Struggle Committee hosts the Reservation Hunkar Rally at the city's Numaiash Ground. The rally seeks to intensify pressure on the central government to extend OBC reservation benefits to Jats from Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Deeg districts in central government jobs and educational institutions.
RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal has urged members of the community to attend in large numbers, emphasizing that the movement concerns the future of younger generations and equal opportunities in employment and education.
In a public message, Beniwal described the rally as more than a political event, calling it a platform to protect community rights and ensure fair representation. He also confirmed his participation in the gathering alongside supporters.
Historical Background of the Issue
The reservation dispute dates back to 1999, when Jats in most parts of Rajasthan were included in the Central OBC list. However, Jats from Bharatpur and Dholpur were excluded due to historical considerations linked to former princely-state governance structures.
While Rajasthan later granted OBC benefits at the state level, the exclusion from the Central OBC list remains in place. As a result, students and job applicants from these districts continue to compete in the general category for admissions to central institutions and recruitment to central government services.
Community leaders argue that the socio-economic realities of the region are similar to those of Jat populations elsewhere in Rajasthan and that equal treatment under the Central OBC framework is justified.
Massive Turnout Expected
Organizers expect thousands of participants from Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Deeg districts. Preparations at the venue include large waterproof tents, drinking water facilities, and medical assistance stations to address summer weather conditions.
The official proceedings are scheduled to begin at 11:15 AM on June 22.
Local authorities have deployed substantial police personnel around the venue and implemented traffic diversions to manage the anticipated crowds and maintain public order.
Political Significance
Political observers believe the rally could emerge as one of the most significant community mobilization events in eastern Rajasthan this year. Apart from Hanuman Beniwal, several farmer leaders, khap representatives, and social organizations are expected to share the stage.
The event is likely to be closely watched by both state and national political stakeholders, as organizers seek to build momentum around their long-standing demand for Central OBC recognition.
