MUMBAI/PUNE: Maharashtra is witnessing intense monsoon activity, with heavy rainfall affecting Mumbai, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and several other regions. The weather department has issued warnings as continuous showers have increased the risk of flooding, landslides, and other rain-related emergencies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Raigad and Ratnagiri, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Authorities have strengthened emergency preparedness, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) positioned in vulnerable areas.
Pune Hit by Landslides and Flood-Like Conditions
Pune district has been among the worst affected areas due to persistent rainfall over the past several days. According to district officials, more than 200 millimetres of rain was recorded in some areas during the last two days, leading to landslides, waterlogging, and road blockages.
Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi said that five people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while around 20 others have suffered injuries. Several incidents involved landslides, while one major accident occurred after a wall collapsed.
Lonavala Under Close Watch
The popular hill destination Lonavala continues to experience heavy rainfall, with rising water levels creating challenging conditions. Additional NDRF teams have been deployed in the area to support rescue and relief operations.
Officials said that emergency teams are monitoring the situation continuously and are prepared to respond to any further developments.
Administration Issues Travel Advisory
With heavy rain and waterlogging affecting movement, authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Special instructions have also been issued for pilgrims participating in the Dehu and Alandi religious journeys, urging them to join from safer designated points instead of travelling directly to affected areas.
Officials have appealed to citizens to remain alert, follow government advisories, and cooperate with rescue teams during the ongoing monsoon situation.
