A tense situation unfolded at the world-famous Gulmarg Gondola on Sunday when operations were suspended following a technical fault, leaving dozens of cable cars stranded above the picturesque Himalayan slopes.
Officials said emergency protocols were activated immediately after the malfunction was detected. Teams from local administration, tourism authorities, police, and disaster response agencies worked together to ensure the safe evacuation of passengers.
Nearly 300 tourists, including families and children, were rescued during the operation. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Chief Minister stated that the government was closely monitoring the situation and praised rescue teams for their swift and professional response.
"The safety of visitors remains our highest priority," officials said, adding that a detailed technical inspection of the cable car system has been ordered before services fully resume.
The Gulmarg Gondola, one of Asia's highest and most popular cable-car attractions, draws thousands of domestic and international visitors every year and is a key pillar of Kashmir's tourism industry
Tourists expressed relief after being safely brought to the ground. Many praised rescue workers for maintaining calm communication throughout the evacuation process.
