The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun an extensive internal review as it prepares for the high-stakes 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. According to party sources, the leadership is seriously considering replacing up to 40 percent of sitting legislators in an effort to combat anti-incumbency and improve electoral prospects.
The review comes as the party focuses on strengthening its grassroots organization while balancing evolving social and caste dynamics across India's most politically significant state.
The strategy reportedly gained momentum following the recent two-day visit of BJP National President Nitin Naveen to Lucknow, where he emphasized organizational discipline, booth-level preparedness, and regular coordination meetings across every level of the party.
Separately, senior leaders and members of organizations associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) held discussions in Ghaziabad to assess political conditions and organizational readiness before the election campaign intensifies.
Performance-Based Candidate Selection
Party insiders indicate that ticket allocation will increasingly depend on measurable performance rather than seniority. Legislators are expected to be evaluated using several factors, including:
Public acceptance
Organizational feedback
Implementation of government welfare schemes
Electoral winnability
Local caste and social dynamics
Grassroots political activity
The BJP also plans to strengthen cooperation between the government and party organization while addressing internal factionalism before the election campaign begins.
Focus on Grassroots Organization
The leadership has instructed state units to intensify activity at the booth, district, and regional levels. Officials have been asked to expand outreach to beneficiaries of government welfare programs and ensure better coordination among party workers and ideological affiliates.
Political analysts say the strategy reflects the BJP's attempt to refresh its leadership while adapting to changing voter expectations in Uttar Pradesh.
