KARAULI, Rajasthan — Irrigation water was successfully released into the Panchna Dam canal network early Tuesday morning after emergency repair teams worked throughout the night to fix a mechanical problem that had interrupted the scheduled release.

The canal system resumed operation at approximately 5:00 a.m., ending uncertainty among farmers who had been waiting for the first major water release in nearly 20 years.

Officials from the Water Resources Department, supported by emergency personnel and specialized divers, completed repairs under difficult weather conditions to restore the dam's gate mechanism.

Farmers Welcome Long-Awaited Relief

The interruption on Monday had triggered protests across several villages after water stopped flowing shortly after the gates were opened.

Road blockades were reported in parts of the command area as farmers demanded immediate action. Following the successful restoration of the gates, irrigation resumed, bringing relief to agricultural communities preparing for the growing season.

Historic Water Dispute Finally Resolved

The canal release follows the resolution of a long-standing dispute over water distribution between villages located within the irrigation command area and those affected by the reservoir's catchment zone.

State authorities facilitated negotiations between both sides, resulting in an agreement that allows canal irrigation to resume while addressing concerns through additional infrastructure projects.

New Irrigation Projects Approved

The state government has approved two lift irrigation projects worth approximately ₹61 crore to provide water to villages in the reservoir's catchment area.

Officials say the projects are designed to ensure a more balanced distribution of water and reduce future conflicts.

Safety Advisory

District authorities have urged residents to remain cautious around canals and the Gambhir River due to increased water flow. Parents, livestock owners, and local communities have been advised to keep away from fast-moving water and follow official safety instructions.
